MOIL Limited is a major player in India's manganese ore industry, specializing in the exploration, development, and marketing of various grades of manganese ores. The company's core business revolves around mining and the subsequent processing and sale of these ores to diverse customers across various sectors.
MOIL's operations are segmented into three key areas: Mining, Manufacturing, and Power Generation. The Mining segment focuses on extracting manganese ore from its ten mines located strategically across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. These mines yield different grades of ore, catering to a wide range of industrial applications.
The Manufacturing segment further refines the mined ore, producing various grades of manganese-based products. This includes high-grade ores suitable for ferro manganese production, medium-grade ores used in silico manganese manufacturing, and blast furnace grade ores utilized in hot metal production. In addition, MOIL manufactures electrolytic manganese dioxide, crucial for dry battery cells and the chemical industry, and high carbon ferro manganese.
Complementing its core mining and manufacturing activities, MOIL also operates a renewable energy division under its Power Generation segment. This division currently includes wind energy farms with a combined capacity of 20 MW (4.8 MW at Nagda Hills and 15.2 MW at Ratedi Hills in Madhya Pradesh) and solar farms with a total capacity of 10.5 MW (5 MW in Maharashtra and 5.5 MW in Madhya Pradesh). This diversification demonstrates MOIL's commitment to sustainability and energy independence.
Established in 1896 and headquartered in Nagpur, India, MOIL has a long history of supplying manganese ore and related products to both domestic and potentially international markets. The company's multifaceted approach, integrating mining, manufacturing, and renewable energy generation, positions it for continued growth and success within the Indian industrial landscape.
