Opening Range Breakout (ORB) Stock Screener – Live NSE Intraday Strategy

Trade the Opening Range Breakout (ORB) strategy live with StockeZee's NSE screener. Track 15, 30, 45 and 60-minute ORB setups with PRB (Previous Range Breakout) confirmation. Get real-time breakout levels, trend direction, LTP, change %, and volume to make accurate intraday entries.

What is Opening Range Breakout (ORB) Strategy?

ORB is an intraday strategy based on the price range formed in the first minutes of market opening. When price breaks above ORB High or below ORB Low with volume, a directional move is likely. StockeZee ORB Screener tracks these breakout levels live across multiple timeframes.

ORB Timeframes & PRB Combinations Available

  • 15 Mins ORB – Fast, aggressive breakout opportunities
  • 15 Mins ORB+PRB – Adds previous day breakout confirmation
  • 30 Mins ORB – More stable, reliable breakouts for beginners
  • 30 Mins ORB+PRB – Filters higher probability intraday trades
  • 45 Mins ORB – Great for confirmed momentum setups
  • 45 Mins ORB+PRB – Reduces noise with stronger filter
  • 60 Mins ORB – Ideal for positional intraday & short swing
  • 60 Mins ORB+PRB – Best for trend continuation with volume

How to use the Open Range Breakout Scanner?

  1. Select ORB timeframe (15/30/45/60 mins)
  2. Track ORB High / ORB Low breakout levels
  3. Watch for breakout candle with volume
  4. Monitor LTP & Change % for momentum
  5. Use PRB combination for confirmation
  6. Place SL beyond ORB range
  7. Use proper risk-reward (1:2 or better)

Frequently Asked Questions

ORB stands for Opening Range Breakout. The opening range is the high and low established in the first 15–60 minutes of the session. A close above the range high signals bullish momentum; a close below the range low signals bearish momentum. Traders enter in the breakout direction and place a stop on the opposite side of the range.
The 30-minute and 60-minute ORB are best for beginners. They avoid early-session noise and give cleaner, higher-conviction setups, whereas the 15-minute ORB fires more often but produces more false signals. Start on the 30-minute timeframe, then move to 15-minute scalps only once you are comfortable reading volume.
PRB means Previous Range Breakout — a break of the prior day's range. Combining ORB with PRB (the ORB+PRB variant) requires both the opening range and the previous day's range to break in the same direction, which filters out a large share of false moves and leaves only the stronger, trend-confirmed breakouts.
Wait for a candle to close beyond the range rather than just wicking through it, confirm with above-average volume, and prefer the ORB+PRB variant which requires previous-range confirmation too. Wider ranges and the 30/45-minute timeframes also filter out early-session noise.
The standard ORB stop-loss sits just beyond the opposite side of the opening range — for a long, below the opening-range low; for a short, above the opening-range high. Many traders use the range width to size the trade and aim for a 1:2 or better risk-reward, trailing the stop once price moves one range-width in their favour.
ORB performs best on trending or high-volatility days and tends to whipsaw in flat, sideways markets where price keeps re-entering the opening range. On range-bound days, demand stronger confirmation (ORB+PRB plus clear volume), trade larger timeframes, or stand aside — false breakouts are most common when broader indices like Nifty and Bank Nifty are themselves rangebound.
They complement each other. ORB defines the breakout level, while VWAP confirms whether buyers or sellers are in control intraday. A high-conviction setup is an ORB breakout that also holds above (for longs) or below (for shorts) VWAP. Use VWAP as a directional filter on top of the ORB signal rather than choosing one over the other.
The screener updates live during NSE market hours (9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST) with real-time prices and volume, so breakout levels and LTP reflect the current session as it develops.
Yes. The 60-minute ORB with PRB confirmation and strong volume works well for short swing trades of 2–5 days, especially when the breakout aligns with the broader trend. The opening-range levels still define your risk, but you hold the position across sessions instead of squaring off intraday.
