Intraday ORB Stack
Highest-conviction intraday momentum setup on NSE
The stack
3 screeners stacked together
Why this stack works
Each component answers a different question. ORB: is the stock breaking out of its early-session range? VWAP: are buyers controlling price? Top Gainers: is institutional flow rotating in? When all three align, the setup has historically had the highest follow-through rate among intraday strategies on NSE.
Entry rules
- 1Wait for the ORB candle to close above the opening range high.
- 2Confirm price is trading above VWAP at the time of breakout.
- 3Enter on the next candle's open or on a pullback to the opening range high.
Stop-loss
Below the opening range low, or below VWAP — whichever is closer (smaller stop = better risk).
Target
1.5x the opening range as the first target. Book half; trail the rest with VWAP.
When this fails
- Market opens flat (no opening range = no setup). Skip the day.
- Stock breaks the opening range but immediately reverses below VWAP — that's the trap, exit fast.
- Major event day (RBI, Fed, earnings) — moves are erratic; reduce position size or skip.
FAQs
Most professional NSE intraday traders use the 15-min ORB as the primary signal — it filters out the 09:15 noise but captures the move before it's exhausted. The 30-min ORB has fewer false signals but enters late on big trend days.
