Fundamental Stock Screeners

Price action tells you what is happening; fundamentals tell you whether it should be. Filter NSE stocks by business quality, valuation, profitability and growth — the metrics that drive long-term compounders, not next week's candle.

What is a fundamental stock screener?

A fundamental screener filters NSE stocks by the business behind the ticker — profitability, growth, financial health, dividend track record and valuation — instead of price action. Where technical screeners answer 'when?', fundamental screeners answer 'what?'. They produce the universe of businesses that meet your investment criteria; the chart still tells you when to buy. For long-term investors, the fundamental screen is the first filter; the chart is the second.

Quality vs Valuation vs Growth

Quality screens (ROE, ROCE, operating margins, debt-to-equity, interest coverage) identify well-run businesses regardless of price. The Quality Scorecard on this hub aggregates these into a single 0–10 score for every NSE stock so you can prefer 8+ scorecards without manually combining ratios.

Valuation screens (PE, PB, PEG, EV/EBITDA, intrinsic value) identify cheap or expensive prices regardless of business quality. The Valuation hub gives you both — Undervalued lists for value-hunting; Overvalued lists for spotting froth, short candidates, or stocks to rotate out of.

The compounder framework — popularised by Buffett and applied widely in Indian markets — is Quality + Reasonable Valuation. A high-quality business bought at a fair price compounds returns over decades. A low-quality business bought cheap is a value trap. Always combine quality and valuation filters before sizing into a long-term position.

Dedicated screens for Profitability (ROE / ROCE / margins), Growth (sales & profit CAGR), Financial Health (D/E, current ratio, interest coverage) and Dividend (yield, payout ratio, dividend history) are in build. Until those ship, the Quality Scorecard already aggregates them into a single score — use it as the primary fundamental filter.

How to use the fundamental screener for long-term picks

  1. 1Start with the Quality Scorecard — filter to stocks scoring 7 or above to remove low-quality businesses upfront.
  2. 2Add a valuation filter from the Valuation hub (PE-based undervalued list or PB-based) to ensure you’re not overpaying.
  3. 3Cross-check sector concentration on the resulting watch-list — avoid having every pick in one sector (a rate cut, a regulatory change, and 6 of your 8 stocks move together).
  4. 4Open each candidate’s /stocks/[symbol] page and check 5-year financial trends — quality at a snapshot vs quality over time is a different filter.
  5. 5Confirm entry timing on the chart using a moving-average or breakout screener from the Technical hub before placing the order.
